Ethiopian Airlines check-in counters open 3 hours before departure and close 1 hour prior to flight time. Passengers must arrive with confirmed bookings, necessary travel documents, and ensure their luggage is within the allowed weight/piece limits. Excess baggage incurs extra charges, so make sure you're within the allowance. Exception: London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Manchester airport (MAN) check-in counters will be closed 75 minutes before departure effective 22 December 2021.

At Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), counters close 90 minutes before departure. Passengers who have completed online check-in and don’t have checked baggage can head straight to the gate 30 minutes before departure. Ensure to arrive early as the check-in counters open 4 hours before departure and close 90 minutes prior to flight departure.

  1. Locate the Kiosk: Find the self-service terminal and select Ethiopian Airlines. Choose your preferred language (English or French).
  2. Find Your Booking: Access your booking using one of three options: by Destination, Flight Number, or Reservation Code.
  3. Confirm Baggage Safety: Confirm that you are not carrying any hazardous or dangerous materials in your checked-in or carry-on baggage. The check-in process can only proceed once this is verified.
  4. Enter Personal Details: Provide personal information, select or change your seat from the interactive seat plan, and add any missing details like your passport information or frequent flyer number.
  5. Get Your Boarding Pass: Once completed, the kiosk will print your boarding pass with a 2D barcode.

● Checked Baggage: Each passenger is allowed a free checked baggage allowance, which may vary depending on your class of travel and the origin-destination of your flight. Be sure to check the specific limits for your journey.

● Excess Baggage: If your luggage exceeds the allowed weight or piece limit, you can carry additional baggage by paying the applicable charges.

●Cabin/Hand Baggage: For Business Class passengers on all Ethiopian routes, you're allowed two pieces of hand baggage, with a maximum weight of 7 kgs each and dimensions not exceeding 20x40x55cm (or 8x16x22 inches).

  • For international flights, passengers should check in 2 hours prior to departure, except in the following cases:
  • Addis Ababa: Arrive 3 hours before departure.
  • Flights to/from USA: Arrive 4 hours before departure.

Failure to meet these time limits may result in Ethiopian Airlines not accepting your check-in if you arrive later than 2 hours before the scheduled departure.For night flights departing from Addis Ababa to the USA, Canada, and Europe, check-in begins at 13:00 local time.

For domestic flights, passengers should arrive 1 hour before departure. Web-checked-in passengers are required to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before departure. If you have baggage to drop off, ensure you arrive at the baggage drop-off counter 45 minutes before departure.

Additionally, for security reasons, local passengers who have checked in at Addis Ababa will not be allowed to leave the airport to meet relatives or friends but must proceed directly through the immigration process.

VISA for passengers transiting through ICN
Kindly note that since our flight will have a technical landing in Seoul, passengers with the nationalities Sudan, Syria, Egypt, Yeman are required to hold a transit VISA for South Korea.

Please be informed that if your flight has a stopover at Incheon Airport (ICN), based on the local requirement you are required to disembark, go through transit security screening, and then re-board the aircraft.

1. All travelers are required to submit thier SG Arrival Card before arriving in Singapore, except:

  • Those transiting/transferring through Singapore without seeking immigration clearance

  • Residents travelling through the land checkpoints.

Please note that the SG Arrival Card is not a visa. You may refer to the requirements for entering Singapore for more information.

2. All passengers with travel history to countries with risk of yellow fever in the 6 days prior to arrival in Singapore are required to have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. The Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate will only be considered valid if issued 10 days prior to arrival into Singapore.

If travel is on a short-term visa, you will need to have a return ticket preferably on Ethiopia Airlines. If the return ticket is on other airlines, an indemnity will have to be submitted.
Long-term visas under process - Passengers need to carry the payment receipt and Declaration. Passengers will also need to have a single-entry visa to enter South Africa. If NOT OK TO BOARD pops up during the check-in system, passengers must contact DHA-South Africa to have the status changed and obtain a "Waiver of Unfavor" letter from DHA- South Africa.

Ethiopian officers do not call you for payment or ask you to transfer money to any specific bank account . Ethiopian has city offices and airport offices in four cities in Nigeria, namely Kano, Enugu, Abuja and Lagos; you may visit our offices for any further information.

Travel Advisory

  • Passport or national identity cards are required for all passengers traveling between Vienna and Copenhagen, along with residence permit or citizenship in one of the Schengen countries. Driving license or other ID cards are not considered as travel documents.

  • Passengers traveling between Vienna and Copenhagen who require entry visa to Schengen countries must have a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. Passengers who already used a single-entry Schengen visa to enter Vienna or another Schengen country cannot travel on Ethiopian Airlines flight between Vienna and Copenhagen as their single-entry Schengen visa is already used.
