Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (IATA: ADD, ICAO: HAAB) is the primary hub of Ethiopian Airlines and the main international gateway to Ethiopia, connecting travelers across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The ultra-modern terminal was inaugurated on January 21, 2003, with a second phase of expansion completed and inaugurated on January 28, 2019.
Handling more than 22 million international and 2 million domestic passengers a year, Bole is one of the busiest airports in Africa. As Ethiopian Airlines' home base and a Star Alliance member hub, it plays a central role in connecting Africa with the rest of the world with 21st-century facilities designed to speed up every departure and arrival.
The terminal has arrival and departure halls for international and domestic passengers, a dedicated VIP salon building, an airport security office, and desks for the airlines that fly to Addis Ababa. It also houses immigration offices, customs, self-check-in kiosks, baggage drop-off counters, banks, and duty-free and specialty shops selling jewelry, cultural clothing, and souvenirs alongside pharmacies, emergency clinics, hotel booths, telecom services, a tourist information center, international brand bars and restaurants, free Wi-Fi, and airport information desks.
Getting To and From the Airport
Bole sits about 6 km from central Addis Ababa's Bole Road area, making it one of the more convenient capital-city hub airports on the continent to reach.
Passengers with a transit time between 8 and 24 hours are accommodated at the Ethiopian Skylight In-Terminal Hotel, regardless of whether an alternative flight with a shorter connection is available. Eligible passengers can collect their hotel voucher at their origin station at no additional cost.
