Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Cheap Flights with Ethiopian Airlines
Everything you need to know before you book: flight duration, baggage allowances, and visa requirements.
Start with the search box at the top of the page, then compare fares across different dates. A few ways to keep the price down: check dates a few days either side of your plan, use the Budget and Cabin Class filters in the fare sections, book early when your travel dates are fixed, and enter a valid promo code if you have one. Fares on the page are recent snapshots, so confirm the final price at checkout.
You can book on the website or the mobile app in a few minutes. Pick your trip type: round trip, one way or multi-city. Enter your origin, destination and travel dates. Choose the number of passengers and the cabin class. Select Search, pick your flight and fare, then add passenger details. Pay by credit or debit card. Your booking is confirmed straight away on screen and by email.
Booking early is usually cheaper when your dates are fixed. Fares are dynamic, so they move with demand, seat availability and season, and they tend to rise as departure gets closer. If your dates are flexible, compare nearby days and watch fares before you commit. No single day is cheapest on every route.
The fares shown here were collected within the last 48 hours, so a fare may have sold out by the time you book. Airline prices also change with demand. The total can include additional baggage fees and charges for optional services such as seat selection. Check the full price on the review page before you pay.
Use the Promo Code field in the search box, next to the passenger and cabin selector. Codes follow their own terms, such as travel dates, routes and cabin, so an expired or ineligible code will not lower the fare.
Yes. Book & Hold keeps your reservation while you pay by credit card on the website or app. Most holds last 24 hours, but the time depends on how soon you fly: departure within 24 hours: 3 hours; 25 to 72 hours away: 12 hours; 73 hours to 3 months away: 24 hours; more than 3 months away: 3 days. Unpaid bookings are cancelled automatically.
For travel departing from the US, you can cancel without a penalty within 24 hours of booking, as long as the reservation was made at least seven days before departure. Contact the global contact center or a ticket office to request it. After that window, your fare rules decide the cancellation fee.
Open Manage Booking, enter your booking reference and last name, then choose Change Flight or Cancel Flight. Online changes work for tickets bought on ethiopianairlines.com or the app. Multi-city, award and ShebaMiles-upgraded tickets need customer care. Fees follow your fare rules. Refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within about seven business days.
The network covers five regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, The Americas and The Middle East. Many itineraries connect through Addis Ababa.
Business Class on Ethiopian is called Cloud Nine. As described on this page, it includes an additional baggage allowance, access to the exclusive C9 lounge, priority boarding and an elaborated inflight service. You can also mix cabins, for example economy out and business back, by choosing All Travel Classes in the search.
Your allowance depends on the route, cabin and fare, so check Free Baggage Allowance for your exact trip before you fly. Extra baggage fees and charges for optional services may apply. ShebaMiles members can also get an extra baggage allowance. Carry-on rules are published separately.
Online check-in is available on the website and the mobile app, depending on your route. Check the eligibility page for your flight. Once you have checked in, keep your boarding pass ready on your phone or printed. If you have bags to drop, arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure.
Ethiopian is a Star Alliance member, and ShebaMiles is its free frequent flyer program. You can earn miles on flights and redeem them for rewards. Listed member benefits include extra baggage allowance, bonus miles, priority airport standby and baggage handling, and advanced boarding. You can join free and count eligible flights taken in the past 90 days.
You can add children and infants online when they travel with an adult. Child (2 to 11 years): needs a seat of their own and their own travel documents. Infant (0 to 23 months): travels without a seat, with up to three infants per booking, at 10% of the adult fare. Children travelling alone cannot be booked online, see Unaccompanied Minors.
The only official website is www.ethiopianairlines.com, plus the Ethiopian app on Google Play and the App Store. Ethiopian staff never call to ask for payment or request a transfer to a bank account. If something looks wrong, reach the airline through the Worldwide Contacts page.
