he Pilot Training School (PTS) and Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS),
commissioned in 1964 and in 1967 respectively, are selected as training centers for African
and Middle East countries. The development of these training outfits has made the Airline self-sufficient
in meeting its requirements for personnel of professional categories, using a highly qualified
and experienced Ethiopian Airline training staff.
Over the last 35 years, these training schools and their respective training units
have also been extending their services to the nationals of over 52 countries in Africa, The Middle East, Asia and Europe.
School Accreditation
The syllabi of both schools are approved and accredited by
- The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA),
- The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC),
- The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) and
- The International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO).
Admission and Registration
An applicant should be a high school graduate or equivalent (at GCE ‘O’ level minimum)
with good grades in English, Mathematics and Physics. Candidates must be between 18 and 25 years
of age and must pass category I medical examination by aviation medical examiner.
For pilot trainees, the minimum height requirement is 170 cm.
Language
The medium of instruction is English.
Candidates are required to read, write, speak and understand English.
For non-English speakers, a 4-6 months English language course
is conducted at extra fee, with the aid of a modern language laboratory.
Training Facilities
Various training aids are used to help trainees understand
the subject matter thoroughly in a relatively short period.
These include various projection and audiovisual (AVU) equipments,
computer based training facilities (CBT), simulators, microcomputer processors and digital technology laboratory equipments.
The library has up-to-date reference materials including books,
FAA / UK-CAA and ICAO publications and provides Internet service to trainees.
The theory and practical portions of the courses are provided by qualified and experienced technicians at an airport located facility utilizing state-of-the-art delivery methods. A practical, hands-on approach to learning provides an environment which simulates, as closely as possible, actual work situations.
Medical Care and Insurance
All trainees are covered by the Ethiopian Airlines' medical and accident insurance scheme.
