Ethiopian has come a long way since commencing operations in 1945 with a weekly service between Addis Ababa and Cairo. Now, almost 62 years on, the airline continues to spread its wings. A modern fleet currently provides passengers and cargo shippers coverage of Africa that is second to none, along with convenient access to a growing number of destinations across Europe, the USA, Asia and the Middle East. Since pioneering the first east-west flights across Africa in the 1950's, the airline has steadily expanded services throughout the continent to establish the largest pan-African network of any airline. Internationally, the airline flies to a number of major cities in Europe including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome and Stockholm; to Bangkok, Beijing, Delhi and Mumbai across Asia; to numerous destinations in the Middle East; to Washington, D.C in the U.S.
For many years the company pursued a policy of network expansion, aimed at "Bringing Africa Together." The airline recognised that a successful future depended on first developing a far-reaching pan-African route network. With this aim now largely fulfilled, the airline's focus is shifting. New destinations and increased numbers of flights to Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East can be expected, as the airline goes about bringing the world closer to Africa. | |
