Ethiopian Aviation Academy Graduated Pilots and Aviation Maintenance Technicians - 30 April, 2012

The Ethiopian Aviation Academy graduated 20 pilots and 22 Aviation Maintenance Technicians at a ceremony held at the Ethiopian Headquarters on Monday, April 30, 2012.

At the graduation ceremony, Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam gave out diplomas to all the graduates and flight wings to graduating pilots. The graduating pilots have completed all pilot courses and have covered 695 hours of classroom and Multi-Engine aircraft training of which is 60 hours with in-flight training devices.

The newly graduated Aviation Maintenance Technicians have taken training with B737 Aircraft Avionics system course which enabled them to acquire sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to qualify them as Aviation Technicians.

Today’s graduates will bring the total number of pilots graduated from the pilot school to 975 and technicians graduated from AMTS school to 3079 since the inception of the schools in 1964 and in 1967 respectively.

Currently, the AMTS is running fifteen parallel classes with a total of 454 trainees. Ten are third party trainees form Tanzania, Liberia, Namibia and Saudi Arabia.

Developing its Pilot Training to new heights, Ethiopian recently introduced a new pilot training program with the agreement concluded between Flight Path International, a company based in Canada and implemented Multi Crew Pilot License Training Program (MPL). This program is a new pilot training and licensing system established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2006 to qualify first officers for airlines. We are proud that Ethiopian Airlines is the first African carrier to implement the program designed by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

In another milestone, Ethiopian Aviation Academy is officially approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as an approved part-147 type maintenance training organization recently. After rigorous and continuous assessment, the Technical Training Center in the Academy has been approved by the agency to be one of the few African training centers qualified to provide EASA approved type maintenance training. This is an important milestone in the journey to make the Aviation Academy the center of excellence in the region.
