Ethiopian Airlines proudly announces that it has taken delivery of the first of the five 777-200LR that the airline ordered in 2009 from the Boeing Company.
The 777-200LR is the World's largest twin engine and long-range airliner with a capacity of connecting virtually any two cities nonstop. The 777-200LR is the first entirely computer-designed commercial aircraft.
"With the delivery of its first 777-200LR, Ethiopian is the first airline in Africa to acquire and operate the world's most technologically advanced airplane with the longest range," said Ethiopian Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake.
The addition of 777-200LR will reaffirm Ethiopian's position as the leader in the aviation industry of Africa. With its full payload of more than 300 passengers, the 777-200LR ultra modern 21 century aircraft will fly from Washington to Addis Ababa nonstop.

"The 777-200LR is the only airplane that provides the range and efficiency that Ethiopian needs to service its long-haul routes," said Larry Loftis, vice president and general manager of the 777 program. " And it's our pleasure to deliver this airplane to our trusted customer," he added.
The 777-200LR carries more passenger and revenue cargo farther than any other jetliner. It can carry a full cargo load on routes where other airplanes are payload limited-giving airlines the ability to carry the same number of passengers farther and with additional revenue- generating cargo.
"As one of the premiere airlines in Africa and around the World, Ethiopian has long used Boeing airplanes as a tool for achieving its objectives," said Ato Girma.
