Carriage of Firearms and Restricted Articles

I. Carriage of Firearms

Ammunition, firearms, sharp knives and/or the following restricted items belonging to passengers shall not be carried inside cabin and/or flight deck (cockpit), and passengers must declare such      items at the time of check-in. They shall only be accepted for carriage as checked baggage. Such firearms shall be unloaded, i.e. free of ammunition and suitably packed for such carriage.

  1. Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)
  2. Catapults
  3. Household cutlery
  4. Knives with blades of any length
  5. Paper knives
  6. Razor blades
  7. Tradesmen’s tools
  8. Darts
  9. Scissors
  10. Hypodermic syringes
  11. Knitting needles
  12. Sporting bats
  13. Billiard, snooker or pool cues
  • All ammunition shall be carried in the aircraft hold as checked baggage only and with approval of concerned Security Authorities.
  • Small arms ammunition for sporting purposes in quantities not exceeding 5kg (10 lbs.) gross weight per passenger, securely boxed can be carried for personal use. However those with explosive or incendiary projectiles are totally prohibited for carriage by air.
  • When such ammunition is carried a written declaration shall be made by the passenger confirming that the ammunition is packed in a strong outside container made of wood, metal or fiberboard and that the ammunition inside the container is protected against shock and secured against movement. The declaration shall also confirm that the passenger is not carrying more than a total of 5kgs (10lbs).
  • Specified government authorities or a police officer escorting a prisoner may carry firearms. Such passenger may be permitted to retain custody of the firearm and ammunition upon duly identifying himself/herself to the checking agent. Firearms carried by these individuals may be loaded if the official concerned substantiates that a loaded weapon is necessary for the fulfillment of his/her mission.
  • In all cases an authority should be produced from the headquarters of the concerned to this effect.

II. Restricted Articles in Passenger’s Baggage

  1. Dangerous goods are articles or substances, which are capable of presenting risk to health, safety or to property when transported by air.
  2. For safety reasons, dangerous articles as defined in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, such as those listed below shall not be carried as, within, or as part of passengers’ baggage.
  1. Briefcases and security type attaché cases with installed alarm devices; or with lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;
  2. Trionic briefcases
  3. Mace canisters – similar to cigarette lighters and sprays.
  4. Gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and poisonous) such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders.
  5. Corrosive materials (such as acids, alkalis, mercury and wet cell batteries).
  6. Etiologic agents.
  7. Explosive, munitions fireworks and flares.
  8. Flammable liquids and solids such as lighter or heating fuels, matches, paints, thinners, firelighters.
  9. Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder, and peroxides.
  10. Poisons and infectious substances such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials.
  11. Radioactive materials.
  12. Other dangerous articles such as magnetized materials, offensive or irritating materials as listed in the IATA Dangerous Articles Regulations.
